The Thirsty Travellers’ mid-winter visit to Lake Tahoe was so gorgeous it took our breath away … or perhaps it was the -8C temperatures?
Let’s stick with it being the scenery.
Our arrival was via Reno Airport, which was much less pretty, but the drive into the mountains was divine.
Fairytale gorgeous, the route was lined with pine tree dusted in snow. As we crested the mountains, Lake Tahoe sparkled below us and we were dazzled.
We had a wonderful three days in Lake Tahoe, staying at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort. Nestled within the scenic Sierra Mountain Range at Incline Village, our hotel room boasted breathtaking views and was very well appointed.
Aside from being gobsmacked by the scenery and taking hundreds of photographs of it, we were totally jazzed by sitting in an outdoor spa in the snow at our hotel one night … as the steam swirled around us and the stars twinkled overhead.
We also loved going on a snowmobiling tour in the forest for two hours. We wound our way through tall pine trees and aspen groves, powder filled meadows and along lake view ridges, to the summits overlooking Lake Tahoe. Exhilarating and stunningly beautiful.
DJ spent a day skiing at Heavenly Mountain, but the weather was a little wild, so it wasn’t his favourite skiing experience. But the locals told us we were very lucky to get so much snow, as they’d had a couple of bad seasons.
We would return to Lake Tahoe in a heartbeat.
Fifteen out of 10 from The Thirsty Travellers.
It was such a happy place for us.
